Complete Concussion Management Inc.
Defy Sports Performance & Physiotherapy is a proud clinic of the Complete Concussion Management Inc. (CCMI) Partnership Program – a network of clinics around the world offering evidence-based concussion care. From initial pre-season baseline testing to concussion treatment and rehabilitation, as partnered CCMI practitioners, we collaborate with primary care physicians to co-manage concussions, helping patients and athletes safely return to learn, work and play.

Pre-Season Baseline Testing

Pre-season testing is a series of physical and cognitive tests that provides pre-injury numbers on healthy brain function. These tests provide healthcare practitioners with an objective benchmark so that they have a comparison if a client sustains a concussion. Under the guidance of CCMI, we have reviewed and selected the best evidence-based tools available to provide you with comprehensive, multimodal, proven baseline-testing.
Concussion symptoms often disappear well before the brain has recovered. Baseline information helps clinicians make informed decisions about returning to work/play/sport.
Using the CCMI system, we offer Concussion Rehabilitation Services including:

Concussion FAQs

Contrary to popular belief, a loss of consciousness or impact to the head are NOT required to sustain a concussion. The acceleration/deceleration of the brain is what causes the injury inside the head.
A period of relative symptom-limited physical and cognitive rest is recommended. Research suggests 24 to 48 hours, however, these decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
In many cases, extended rest can cause more harm than good!
Following a short period of rest, the International Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport (2016) recommends a gradual increase in mental and physical activity by a licensed healthcare practitioner trained in concussion management.
Seek out Expert Concussion Care instead of guessing or relying on outdated methods.
We do not treat all symptoms of Concussion. Our Practitioners are trained to screen and appropriately refer to other Professionals when indicated. This may include Neuro-Optometrists, Occupational Therapists, Neurologists, and more.
